At
Bioluga, we focus on innovation. It's the lifeblood of our industry and the
path to tomorrow's
breakthrough
products.
Exosomes
are nano-sized, membrane-enclosed vesicles that are secreted by essentially all
cells and contain bioactive molecules, including proteins, RNAs and microRNAs.
They function as messengers to regulate the functions of neighboring cells.
Age, chronic disease, environmental factors and genetic disorders can interfere
with how our cells communicate with other cells, thus disrupting the healing
process. Their low or null immunogenicity, and ability to communicate in native
cellular language make them an exciting, emerging class of potential
therapeutic agents.
Exogenous
administration of exosomes may direct or, in some cases, re-direct cellular
activity to repair and regenerate itself, supporting their therapeutic
potential. This healing mechanism can now be used in regenerative medicine.
Because exosomes are cell-free substances, they can be stored, handled,
reconstituted and administered similarly to common biopharmaceutical products
such as antibodies.
Exosomes
may help regulate processes within the body. Patients with autoimmune disease,
osteoarthritis, chronic inflammation and other chronic degenerative diseases
may benefit from including exosomes in their treatment regimen. Exosomes may
also be beneficial as part of or suffering from skin burn and anti-ageing
therapy. Patients with the degenerative joint disease have also benefited from
the use of exosomes.
